In India, the average ATM withdrawal limit per transaction varies between ₹20,000 and ₹100,000, depending upon the bank and debit card type. The typical ATM withdrawal limit is between ₹20,000 and ₹40,000 per transaction for the majority of public sector banks, including State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, and Canara Bank. More limitations are sometimes offered by private banks; for example, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank permit withdrawals of up to ₹50,000 for specific premium debit card varieties.

Recent New ATM Cash Withdrawal Rules and Regulation

The RBI has updated ATM transaction policies:

  • After exceeding the cash withdrawal limit, each transaction costs ₹21.
  • The increased charge compensates banks for rising costs and interchange fees.
  • Banks must provide a minimum of 5 free ATM transactions per month, including both financial and non-financial transactions.
  • This free limit applies to transactions at the bank’s own ATMs as well as other bank ATMs.

Can you Increase your ATM Withdrawal Limit?

Yes, you can increase your ATM withdrawal limit in the following ways:

  • The easiest method is to contact your bank and request an increase.
  • Banks may offer to raise your ATM cash withdrawal limit either temporarily or permanently.
  • Your account history, relationship with the bank, and reason for the increase hold an important place.
  • You’ll need a strong justification for a permanent limit increase.

Higher limits necessitate increased vigilance to prevent unauthorized access in case of debit card loss or theft.

Conclusion

Users must adhere to the updated daily ATM cash withdrawal limit as per the RBI’s implementation to remain compliant and prevent paying extra charges. Smart financial practices, such as checking account balances and making fewer but larger withdrawals, can help customers get the most out of their free ATM transactions while minimising penalties. It is also suggested that you check with your bank on a regular basis for changes in ATM policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much money can be withdrawn from an ATM at once?

Depending on the bank, the maximum amount that you can withdraw from an ATM at once can differ; however, it usually ranges from ₹10,000 to ₹40,000 for each transaction. 2. How many ATM transactions are free?

Most Indian banks provide their customers with five free ATM transactions each month at their own bank’s ATMs, in accordance with RBI requirements. Depending on the area, users of other bank ATMs are also normally permitted three to five free transactions each month. Banks may charge up to ₹21 for each withdrawal in addition to the free transactions.

You will get a text message on your registered mobile number after your ATM card has been sent. The message will include essential details like the courier tracking number.

You can track your ATM card delivery status online using the following steps:

  • STEP 1: Open the SMS notification you received from your bank. Note down the courier tracking number.
  • STEP 2: Visit the website of the third-party delivery partner. This information is usually provided in the SMS.
  • STEP 3: Look for the option to track shipments or parcels on the delivery partner’s website.
  • STEP 4: Enter the courier tracking number in the designated field and click on ‘Track’.
  • STEP 5: You will now see the current status of your ATM card delivery.

How to contact customer service about ATM card delivery?

If you experience any issues with online tracking of your ATM card status, you can contact your bank’s customer service department. Provide your account details and the tracking number, and they will assist you with the current status of your ATM card delivery.

Note: Remember, the delivery partner returns the ATM card to the bank if you are unavailable at the delivery address mentioned in your bank records.

Method 2: Checking ATM Card Status Through Your Bank’s Internet Banking

Steps to track ATM Card delivery status:

STEP 2: Navigate to the cards section.

STEP 3: Look for the “Debit Card Issuance Tracking” or similar option and click on it.

STEP 4: Select your account number and the year and month you applied for the new ATM/Debit Card, then click the submit button.

You can now view your Debit Card request status, which includes the card request date, card request status (accepted/rejected), last 4-digit of the new Debit Card, and Dispatch Status.

Note: The specific steps may differ slightly depending on the bank’s internet banking interface.

Method 4: Track ATM Card Status via Customer Service Helpline

Most banks feature a helpline focused on ATM card inquiries. An Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system will guide you when you call. Blocking an ATM card is an important step towards preventing ATM skimming, and unauthorized transactions and improving financial security. If your ATM card gets stolen or lost, immediately blocking it stops ATM fraud and safeguards your account. In this article, we’ll uncover the step-by-step process of how to block ATM cards.

Different Methods to Block ATM Cards

Banks offer multiple convenient options for blocking your card in the event of loss, theft, or suspected fraudulent activity to prevent unauthorized transactions and ensure the safety of your account.

Method 1. Call Customer Care to Block ATM Card

All major banks in India, including SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, and Canara Bank, offer specialized customer care services to help consumers block their ATM cards. These banks provide customers with toll-free numbers that are available 24/7.

Some of the top bank’s customer care numbers are:

  • SBI: 1800 11 2211

  • HDFC: 1800 202 6161

  • ICICI: 1860 120 7777

  • Axis Bank: 1860 419 5555

  • Bank of Baroda (BoB): 1800 258 4455

  • PNB: 1800 180 2222

  • Canara Bank: 1800 425 0018

To block an ATM card via customer care, call the bank’s CC number and inform the agent of your issue. They will guide you through the steps, which often include verifying your identification and account information.

Once the block is successfully placed, you may receive a confirmation by SMS or email. A customer service executive may be assigned to confirm that the rightful owner is involved in the process and to provide any additional assistance if needed.

Method 2. Block ATM Card Using NetBanking

Visit your bank’s NetBanking portal, where details of your active cards or the option to block an ATM card can be found. Here are the login links for major banks in India:

It’s important to confirm your intention to block your card to prevent accidental blocking and ensure that you take the correct action for the right card.

Additionally, verify your identity to continue blocking by entering your NetBanking profile password or an OTP (One-Time Password) sent to your registered phone number. These safety measures ensure that only authorized users can block the card

Once the process is completed successfully, you will receive a notification confirming that your ATM card has been blocked. A reference ticket number will be displayed on the screen for future reference or to contact customer support.

Method 3. Block ATM Card With SMS

Banks offer SMS banking services that allow you to conveniently disable your ATM card by sending the following pre-formatted message to the number specified by your bank:

BLOCK XXXX ( Where XXXX represents the last 4 digits of your ATM card number)

Send this to the number provided by your bank.

You will receive a unique ticket number shortly after you’ve sent the SMS, confirming that the ATM card block has been successfully initiated. This method improves ease and security against fraudulent transactions by providing easy accessibility, quick response time, and simplicity. It also allows card blocking from any location without the need for an internet connection or customer support calls.

Method 4. Submit an ATM Card Block Application by Visiting the Bank Branch

If you prefer a more personalized approach or have restricted access to digital banking services, you can disable your ATM card by visiting your bank’s local branch. This method enables you to seek help directly from bank staff, ensuring prompt action to prevent unauthorized transactions.

Bank employees will guide you through the procedure and can ask for identity verification for security reasons and to ensure your request is legitimate. The bank officials are well-equipped to promptly block your debit card and provide you with a confirmation of the successful block. They may also offer additional instructions or steps, such as applying for a replacement card or updating your contact information.

Thus, visiting a bank branch provides personalized service, face-to-face conversation, and a quick response to your requests.

Why It’s Crucial to Block an ATM Card?

Losing or having your ATM card stolen may be frustrating and financially devastating. Prompt action to disable the card is crucial for preventing unauthorized access to your bank account and safeguarding your hard-earned money from fraudulent transactions.

When an ATM card gets into the wrong hands, it may be used to make unauthorized withdrawals, purchases, and financial transfers. Delays in the card-blocking procedure can result in financial losses and jeopardize personal information, potentially contributing to identity theft.

Thus, it is essential to contact the bank officials and take precautionary action immediately in such scenarios, by blocking your ATM card and disabling all its functions, including transfers, cash withdrawals, PIN changes, and online payments.

Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) serve an important role in modern banking by providing 24/7 access to financial services, boosting client convenience globally. While ATMs offer numerous advantages like speedy cash withdrawals and account management, they also have their own disadvantages, such as security threats and transaction costs. In this article, We’ll discover the top 7 advantages and disadvantages of ATMs, offering an in-depth understanding of their influence on daily banking.

Advantages Of ATM

1. Round-the-clock Availability

ATMs provide you with any-time access to banking services, making them convenient for urgent withdrawals. This round-the-clock availability increases the flexibility of banking operations, ensuring great customer service.

2. Global Access and Convenience

ATMs offer global access, enabling you to carry out numerous financial activities easily, regardless of where you are. This makes banking easy and accessible, improving customer experience.

3. Reduced Bank Queues

As an alternative to in-person transactions, ATMs considerably reduce congestion at bank branches. By reducing wait times and allowing staff members to concentrate on more complicated customer needs, this efficiency saves time for both consumers and bank employees.

4. Quick Transactions

Another advantage of ATM machines is faster and more convenient financial transactions through simple and rapid operations including cash withdrawals, balance checks, and more. The whole banking experience is streamlined since users can rapidly withdraw cash, cheque balances and complete simple transactions without having to speak with bankers directly.

5. Variety of Banking Services at Fingertips

In addition to accepting deposits, you can also use ATMs for transfers of money, bill payments, mobile recharges, and mini statements.

6. Promoting Financial Literacy

Using ATMs encourages you to manage your transactions independently and be in control of your finances. This enhances your money management skills and financial future.

7. Cardless Money Withdrawal

UPI-enabled ATMs allow you to make transactions without requiring a physical card. This increases convenience while lowering the danger of card loss, making banking more secure and accessible.

Disadvantages of ATM

1. Incurred Transaction Fees

ATMs may impose transaction fees, especially when they are not connected to the user’s bank or once all free withdrawals have been exhausted. The total cost of financial transactions may increase as a result of these fees over time.

2. Security / Fraud Risk

ATMs are highly susceptible to fraud. Be careful and avoid scams, skimming devices, and other fraudulent actions that jeopardize your financial security.

3. Technical Issues

ATMs may face technical issues like malfunctions and network problems, resulting in service disruptions. These may inconvenience you if you’re requesting rapid cash access.

4. Limited Cash Availability

ATMs have daily withdrawal limitations and may run out of cash during periods of high usage, limiting your access to your funds. This can be especially difficult in emergencies where you may need larger amounts.

5. Lack of Personalized Service

It is challenging to handle complicated banking concerns or receive personalized financial advice while using an ATM since it lacks the face-to-face interaction and assistance that bank employees may provide.

6. Limited Service Availability

ATMs offer a range of services but may lack specific features. This may force you to visit a bank office to complete certain transactions, such as cash deposits.

7. Limited Availability in Rural Areas

Rural or remote areas frequently report fewer ATMs, signifying the weak financial infrastructure in developing nations. Limited access to banking services may cause obstacles for residents to manage their finances effectively.

Conclusion

ATMs have many benefits, like accessibility, ease, and a variety of services. They also have drawbacks like transaction costs, security issues, and restricted availability in some locations. You can maximize the potential advantages of ATMs with prudent financial decisions, and seeking alternate choices as needed.

Have you ever found yourself at an ATM, only to realize you’ve left your wallet at home? Or been in a situation needing cash with only your smartphone on hand? Don’t worry. With the UPI ATM cash withdrawal feature, you can withdraw money using your smartphone at an ATM. This article explains UPI ATM cash withdrawal, how to use UPI for cash withdrawals at ATMs, and covers all the details you need to know.

What is UPI ATM Cash Withdrawal?

UPI ATM Cash Withdrawal is a service offered by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) that facilitates cardless cash withdrawals from ATMs utilizing the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).  This innovative technology eliminates the need for physical debit cards, enhancing convenience and security for users.

Known as Interoperable Cardless Cash Withdrawal (ICCW), this service marks a significant milestone in cardless transactions, with India introducing its first UPI-ATM on September 5, 2023, in Mumbai.

Some of the prominent features of this cardless withdrawal feature are:

  1. Interoperability: The UPI ATM is compatible across various banking systems, allowing usage with multiple bank accounts regardless of the bank.
  2. Transaction Limit: There is an upper limit of ₹10,000 per transaction using the UPI ATM. It is also subject to daily UPI limits and bank-specific restrictions.
  3. QR Code-Based Withdrawal: Using QR codes ensures security by eliminating risks associated with cards, such as cloning, making it a safer and more secure method.
  4. Instant Cash Dispensation: Once confirmed, the UPI ATM instantly dispenses the requested cash, debiting the same from your account.
  5. Single UPI App: With a single UPI app, you can withdraw cash from multiple accounts, simplifying the process and reducing the need for multiple cards.

How to Withdraw Cash using UPI at an ATM?

Here is a step-by-step guide on how you can withdraw cash from an ATM using UPI on your smartphone:

Step 1: Locate a UPI-Enabled ATM

ATMs may explicitly indicate if they are UPI-enabled. Look for ‘UPI Cash Withdrawal’ at the bottom right or top left corner of the ATM screen to confirm UPI withdrawal support.

UPI ATM Cash Withdrawal Benefits

  1. Enhanced Security: ICCW eliminates the risks of card-related frauds, such as card cloning and skimming, since it does not involve the use of a physical card.
  2. Accessibility: This service is easily accessible, as it is supported by most banks and ATMs that use the UPI platform. Additionally, if you haven’t received your physical card after opening a new account, you can still withdraw money using this feature.
  3. Convenience: With UPI ATM withdrawals, you don’t need to carry a physical card, thus avoiding the risk of losing or misplacing it. This method offers a convenient way to access cash without any hassle.
  4. Cash Withdrawals from Multiple Accounts: While traditional ATM transactions with a card limit you to one account, UPI ATM transactions allow you to choose from multiple linked accounts.

UPI ATM Transaction Limits and Charges 2024

You can withdraw up to ₹10,000 per transaction using the UPI ATM, which falls within the existing daily UPI limit and is subject to your bank’s restrictions. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) does not charge any fees for UPI ATM transactions. However, the usual ATM fee structure still applies, depending on your account type and the number of monthly ATM transactions allowed.

How is UPI ATM Withdrawals Different from Cardless ATM Withdrawals?

The Reserve Bank of India permits ICCW transactions, which include both cardless cash withdrawals and UPI-ATM withdrawals. The key differences between these two methods lie in their processes and convenience.

Cardless cash withdrawals require initiating the request through NetBanking, which involves adding beneficiaries, inputting mobile numbers, and entering one-time passwords. This method can be time-consuming and involves multiple steps.

On the other hand, UPI-ATM withdrawals offer a more streamlined approach. With UPI-ATM, you can instantly withdraw cash using any UPI-enabled app by simply scanning a QR code and authenticating the transaction with your UPI PIN. This method eliminates the need for pre-authorization and multiple steps, making it quicker and more convenient.

Conclusion

UPI ATM withdrawals offer a modern, convenient, and secure method for accessing cash without needing a physical card. By simply using a UPI-enabled app on your smartphone, you can withdraw cash instantly by scanning a QR code, enhancing security and ease of use. With widespread support across various banks and ATMs, this feature ensures accessibility and flexibility. So, even if you forget your wallet at home, you can still withdraw money effortlessly using the UPI ATM withdrawal feature.
